Channel 5’s documentary, Secrets of the Royals, reflected on Prince Charles ascension to the thrown and what difficulties he will face. Royal commentators agreed that as the Prince of Wales, he has remained very opinionated. This remains unusual for the heads of the monarchy who are expected to not give their opinion on a variety of different topics.
Documentary narrator Glynis Barber said: “Unlike the Queen, whose opinions remain secret, Prince Charles has already expressed his views in public.
“He has done this from topics ranging from the environment to architecture.”
Royal commentator Georgina Lawton said: “Charles I know is itching to get involved in Government and politics.
“He is itching to get involved in lobbying at that level but of course it is not allowed.

“It is going to be very interesting to see whether or not he can hold back.”
Former MP and commentator Edwina Currie added: “What Prince Charles will find hard to do is curb his statement of opinions.
“Or pushing the Government to do things as we don’t want the Royals to take sides.”
Prince Charles’ bold messaging on climate change may have to be lessened when he is King to avoid dividing the public.

The Prince of Wales’ impassioned speeches on issues such as these would not be expected when he is King, according to royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams.
During an interview with Express.co.uk, he said: “The Prince began his campaign years ago, he’s been campaigning for over half a century on the environment.
“But you wouldn’t expect him to, in any sense, be a campaigning monarch.
“And in his 70th birthday interview, he said he wouldn’t be, it just isn’t the job.

“As I said, the Christmas broadcast and his weekly audiences with the Prime Minister can be spheres where he can mention it.”
At the 2020 World Economic Forum in Davos, Prince Charles gave his latest climate change speech.
He said: “Do we want to go down in history as the people who did nothing to bring the world back from the brink in time to restore the balance when we could have done? I don’t want to.”
The Prince of Wales also used the conference to announce his new Sustainable Markets initiative, which urges businesses to put the Earth first in how they operate.
