Prince Charles was left “taken aback” according to a royal commentator after a rebuke from Princess Diana’s mother Frances Shand Kydd. Channel 5’s royal documentary Secrets of the Royals discussed the details of the relationship between Prince Charles and Princess Diana. After Prince Harry’s birth, the Prince of Wales made a comment that it was a shame the Duke was not a girl.

This proved to be upsetting for Princess Diana’s mother who had lost a baby boy herself.

She snapped at Prince Charles and insisted he should be grateful for a healthy baby.

This stunned the Prince as the Royal Family were not used to being spoken to in this manner.

The documentary narrator Glynis Barber said: “There was a clash between the two sides of the family.”
