Prince Charles sparks fury after revealing personal detail – ‘I don’t want him to be King’

The future king’s rules for making a cup of tea have been revealed by the hospitality manager of Dumfries House, which trains butlers. Evan Samson described how a teapot and loose tea should be used, rather than a tea bag.

The hospitality manager told the Sunday Times that one teaspoon of loose tea per cup should be added to the teapot, plus one extra spoonful.

The water must be heated to 100C for Earl Grey or English Breakfast tea, with a thermometer used to check the temperature.

The tea is brewed for five minutes to reach the perfect strength.

For green tea the temperature is 70C and it is brewed for three minutes.

Organic honey replaces sugar and it is added before the tea.

Milk is poured after the tea, with an extra jug provided.

Mr Samson said the handle of the teacup should be positioned to the right with the teaspoon placed underneath.

The tea method prompted a mixed reaction on Twitter.

One person tweeted: “I don’t want him to be king.”

Another wrote: “This is how I have made my tea FOREVER (I do use sugar and not honey, BUT I do brew it for five mins, with a timer, I know, I know) and now I shall continue to do so with royal endorsement.”

A third posted: “I agree with Prince Charles if tea is made in a mug with tea bag the tea should brew but then add the milk prior to removing bag to ensure it’s strong enough. I like a proper builders brew made with Yorkshire Tea. If it’s a fine tea I usually don’t have milk anyway.”

One more said: “Prince Charles likes milk to be added to his tea after it’s been poured. So do I so what’s the big deal?”

It comes after Boris Johnson sparked an outcry when he made a cup of tea in a video during the election campaign.

The Prime Minister left the tea bag in the mug, dividing the nation.

He tweeted afterwards: “For those who’ve noticed, this really is how I make my tea.

“It lets it brew and makes it stronger.”
