Prince Charles rift: How Prince of Wales’ Japan tour was UNDERMINED – by his own son

Prince Charles’ short trip to Japan is ending on Thursday after attending Emperor Naruhito’s enthronement ceremony – a hugely significant event in royal circles. But the Prince of Wales’ trip got interrupted as a bombshell ITV documentary about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle was released, causing a stir both home and abroad.

According to a royal source, Prince Charles is reportedly worried for his son in the same way he used to fear for the late Princess Diana.

The heir to the throne is said to be concerned about a gulf opening up between Harry and the rest of the royal family.

A royal source told The Sun: “Charles is worrying about Harry in the same way he did Diana. Publicly he will defend his son.”

Prince Charles has reportedly become irate about the situation in private.

The source added: “The Prince of Wales is very busy at the moment touring Japan, including a visit with the Welsh rugby team.

“But the point is that this whole kerfuffle has completely undermined the work he is doing… to do it to your brother is one thing.

“To do it to your father and paymaster is a completely different matter altogether.”

Harry confirmed speculations of a rift with his brother Prince William when he spoke to ITV in a documentary admitting “you have good days, you have bad days”.

The royal insider said the conflict has overshadowed the Prince’s new two-part ITV documentary, Prince Charles: Inside the Duchy of Cornwall, which airs on Thursday.

In an ITV documentary released on Sunday, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex spoke of how they “struggle” with the media and life in the public eye.

The youngest son of Prince Charles confirmed the rift with William in the programme.

Speaking to ITV news anchor Tom Bradby, who he has been friends with for nearly 20 years, he said: “Part of this role and part of this job and this family being under the pressure that it’s under inevitably, you know, stuff happens.

“But look, we’re brothers. We’re certainly on different paths at the moment but I will always be there for him and I know he’ll always be there for me.

“You know, we don’t see each other as much as we, as much as we used to because we’re so busy.

“But I love him dearly and, you know, the majority of the stuff is created out of nothing.

“Just as I said, as brothers, you have good days, you have bad days.”

Why was Prince Charles in Japan?

Clarence House announced in August the Prince of Wales would travel to Japan “on behalf of Her Majesty The Queen,” serving as the British Royal Family’s representative at Emperor Naruhito’s enthronement ceremony.

While in Tokyo, Charles is also making time for other royal duties.

According to Clarence House, Charles’s trip “include a day of engagements in Tokyo to celebrate British-Japanese connections.”

This morning, Charles visited the Wales Rugby World Cup training ground, whilst they held a closed training session.

The ninth Rugby World Cup kicked off on September 20 and is the first time the tournament has been held in Asia, outside rugby’s traditional heartland nations.

To end the day and Charles trip to Japan, he attended the Prime Minister Shinzo Abe Return Banquet at Hotel New Otani.

Two traditional plays were performed prior to the Prime Minister’s speech and dinner.
