Prince Charles, 72, is Britain’s future king and on Wednesday stood in for his mother at a very important engagement. Face-to-investiture ceremonies were postponed during the pandemic but in recent weeks Princess Anne, 70, and now Charles, 72, have deputised for Queen Elizabeth II, 95,  and handed out the honours in person.

Clarence House shared the news of Charles’s latest engagement on Twitter, writing: “This morning, almost 40 deserving recipients were recognised for their achievements at an Investiture Ceremony in St James’s Palace.
 
“Those honoured today included actor and playwright Natasha Gordon who was awarded an MBE.”

The Royal Family also plugged Charles’s important engagement on social media.

The Palace’s official account tweeted photos of some of the people to receive honours with the message: “Congratulations to everyone who received an honour from The Prince of Wales during today’s Investiture.

“Natasha Gordon was awarded an MBE for Services to Drama – her debut play Nine Night made her the first black British female playwright to be produced in the West End.”
