Friends of the Prince of Wales suggested he was shaken by the revelations in the Sussex royals sit down with Ms Winfrey. Harry claimed he felt “let down” by his father in the interview after Charles stopped taking his calls for some time.

A friend told Vanity Fair royal correspondent Katie Nicholl of Charles’ struggles in the wake of Meghan and Harry’s interview.

The source said the Prince of Wales was “in a state of despair”, and added Harry has been in contact with him to discuss the interview.

Another friend told Vanity Fair Charles was “at a loss” at the interview, telling the outlet: “He will not be drawn into it, but it’s fair to say he is surprised and very disappointed by what has been said.

“He didn’t watch the interview, but of course he’s heard what has been said.

“He feels let down by them both.”

Harry said in the interview with Ms Winfrey he lost contact with his father in the lead up to his and Meghan’s step back from working royal life last March.

The Duke said: “I feel really let down because he’s been through something similar, he knows what pain feels like and Archie’s his grandson.

“But at the same time, of course I will always love him but there’s a lot of hurt that’s happened and I will continue to make it one of my priorities to try and heal that relationship.”

Harry also shared he and Prince William “were on different paths”, but insisted he loves his brother.

It comes as Charles resumed public royal duties this week, visiting a coronavirus vaccine clinic in London.

Sky News said he appeared to be in good spirits but declined to comment on his son’s interview.

Harry was also in contact with the Royal Family ahead of the interview’s release to inform them of its contents.

Harry and William have not spoken since the interview, according to reports, but are poised to do so.

A source told Page Six: “They have opened communication channels.”
