Prince Charles humiliated after Camilla’s flirting attempt ended in embarrassing accident

Prince Charles ‘humiliated’ in front of Camilla says Seward

Prince Charles had wanted to impress his new love interests with a spectacular dinner but was left humiliated when he had a small incident, according to royal expert Ingrid Seward. The Prince of Wales had invited Camilla to have a romantic dinner together and had planned to wow her with a very expensive bottle of wine. But speaking to Channel 5 documentary ‘Before They Were Royal,’ Ms Seward claimed Charles ended up ruining the tête-à-tête by spilling the wine.

Ms Seward said: “Charles, actually himself, told me a wonderful story about going out with a girl who was obviously Camilla.

“He really wanted to impress her so he ordered the most expensive bottle of wine on the menu.

“And Charles just sort of moved his hand and knocked the bottle over. And he said he was so humiliated, trying to impress this girl and then knocking this expensive bottle of wine.”

Despite the awkward accident, the Prince of Wales appeared to win over Camilla and begun a short relationship with her in the early 1970s.

Royal author Penny Junor suggested Charles pursued a relationship with Camilla because she appeared not to overly care about his role.

Ms Junor said: “I think what attracted Charles to Camilla was the fact she was not over-awed by him, at all.

“The fact that she was going out with the Prince of Wales…he could have been Joe Blocks, she didn’t care.”

Expert Katie Nicholl also said Camilla’s fun nature was especially attractive to the Prince of Wales when compared to the strictness of the Royal Family.

Ms Nicholl said: “He loved the fact that Camilla was fun and could be a bit frivolous and carefree.

“She was very different from the other debutantes on the scene at the time and certainly some of the women Charles had been linked with.

“She was something of a breath of fresh air and when they did start dating, Charles was absolutely blown away by her.”

Despite the deep feelings the Prince of Wales was said to have for Camilla already at the time, they soon broke up and she reunited with on-and-off boyfriend, Andrew Parker Bowles.

Camilla married the soldier in 1973 and settled outside of London with him to start their family but remained close to Charles.

In 1981, the former royal girlfriend attended the Prince of Wales’ marriage to Lady Diana Spencer despite the future princess reportedly already having doubts about the closeness of the pair.

Charles would later admit in a bombshell interview in the mid-1990s he had resumed his relationship with Camilla after his marriage to Diana had “irrevocably broken down.”

The Prince of Wales married Camilla Parker Bowles in a civil ceremony in 2005 after which she became known as the Duchess of Cornwall.

Charles and Camilla celebrated their 15th wedding anniversary at their Birkhall home in Scotland as they both shielded during the pandemic.
