Lady Anne Glenconner said there are “hardly any of them left” as she praised Camilla, Princess Anne, Prince William and Kate. It comes as Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are starting a new life in America and Prince Andrew has stepped back from public duties over the Jeffrey Epstein controversy.

Lady Anne told Tatler: “Prince Charles has always wanted to make the Royal Family ‘slimmer’.

“Now he’s got it in spades! There are hardly any of them left!”

On those who remain as working royals, the former lady-in-waiting described the Duchess of Cornwall as “wonderful”.

She added: “Lovely sense of humour; she’s made [Prince Charles] so happy.”

Lady Anne said the Princess Royal is “equally amazing” but admitted she was “always a bit frightened” of her.

On the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge she said: “Prince William and Kate are wonderful.

“The Duchess of Cambridge, of course, is the star of the moment.”

Lady Anne was Margaret’s lady-in-waiting from 1971 to 2002.

She was also one of the Queen’s six maids of honour at her coronation at Westminster Abbey in 1953.

Lady Anne recently opened up about the ceremony in ITV documentary The Queen: Inside the Crown.

She revealed how the maids of honour were given a bottle of smelling salts in case they felt faint.

Lady Anne said: “Not that they did much good.

“I started to sway, I couldn’t see, everything was black, it was awful.

“I thought I cannot let the Queen down. I could ruin the whole thing.

“All the cameras, millions of people all over the world watching.”

The Black Rod, a senior official in the House of Lords, saw Lady Anne and helped her.

She said: “Suddenly I had this wonderful arm pinning me to the pillar at the back and he kept me just long enough for me to recover.”
