Prince Charles’ desire for a streamlined monarchy will end up “leaving out” royals like Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice, an expert has warned. The Prince of Wales has reportedly expressed intentions to slim down the Royal Family when he ascends to the throne so only those in the direct line of succession are titled. HeirPod host Omid Scobie discussed what this would mean for less senior members.
He told listeners: “The Royal Family are going to focus on a much more streamlined monarchy.
“Many reports have suggested that Charles will go for something similar to the Swedish Royal Family.
“That will leave out the likes of Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice.
“They’re not working royals so that need for a title is almost a bit unnecessary.”
The vision of a streamlined monarchy was popularised by Sweden’s King Carl XVI Gustaf.
In 2019, he announced that five of his grandchildren with Queen Silvia were stripped of their official royal titles.
They were no longer required to perform royal duties as a result.
A statement from the Swedish royal palace read: “The purpose of these changes is to establish which members of the royal family may be expected to perform official duties incumbent on the head of state or related to the function of the head of state.”
Prince Charles was 'jealous' of Harry and William says expert
Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams spoke to Express.co.uk about Charles’s vision of a different monarchy.
He said: “The phrase ‘slimmed down Royal Family’ constantly keeps coming up.
“The Royal Family will evolve with Charles coming to the throne.”
The expert added: “As far the inner core, I think it’s perfectly clear that it’s going to be Charles and Camilla.
