Meghan Markle is passing on her love of food and cooking to her young son Prince Archie, as the Duchess shared an insight into her children’s eating habits. In an episode of her podcast Archetypes Meghan exclaims, “Thankfully my kids love vegetables”, with the family also growing their own veggies at their Montecito home.

In a clip from the Netflix documentary series Harry & Meghan Archie is seen enjoying baking a cake with Meghan’s niece Ashleigh Hale, who explained the “special bond” she has with the little boy.

Before shutting down her blog The Tig in 2017, when she and Harry got engaged, Meghan regularly shared some of her favourite recipes on the website.

Recently the Duchess contributed a recipe for a lemon olive oil cake to the charity cookbook The World Central Kitchen Cookbook by Spanish chef Jose Andres.

Mr Andres is also the founder of the not-for-profit organisation World Central Kitchen (WCK), which provides meals to survivors of natural disasters.

Meghan’s cookbook contribution was confirmed in a post on the Archewell website, which read: “This weekend, longtime friend and partner of The Archewell Foundation, Chef Jose Andres announced the upcoming release of ‘The World Central Kitchen Cookbook: Feeding Humanity, Feeding Hope.’

“The cookbook is a captivating collection of stories and recipes from renowned chefs, local cooks, and friends of the global nonprofit, which feeds communities impacted by natural disasters and humanitarian crises.

“All author proceeds will support WCK’s emergency response efforts, and Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex is proud to have contributed a recipe.

“In March 2021, The Duchess sent a Lemon Olive Oil cake, which is included in the book, to a group of female restaurateurs who partnered with WCK to provide meals to their community during the pandemic.”

Other celebrities to have contributed to the cookbook include former first lady Michelle Obama.

It is not the first charity cookbook Meghan has worked on, as she wrote a foreword for the book Together: Our Community Cookbook, put together by the women of the Hubb Community Kitchen in west London.

The book includes 50 recipes from the Hubb Kitchenm which is made up of women displaced following the Grenfell Tower fire in 2017.

Growing up in Los Angeles meant Meghan was exposed to lots of different varieties of food as a child, sparking her passion for cooking.

She explained on her podcast: “Los Angeles, despite how segregated it sometimes felt, was full of culture that you could see, feel, hear and taste on a daily basis.

“Now obviously I had a real fixation with food. Not much has changed there. But more than that, I had a real love of getting to know other cultures.”

Some of Meghan’s favourite foods include sushi and quinoa, although she enjoys fries and wine as a treat.
