Prince Andrew snub: Elton John’s swipe at Duke’s birthday celebrations exposed
Andrew’s ex-wife Sarah Ferguson is scrambling to make up the numbers for his birthday party as the disgraced prince is shunned by friends, according to the Daily Mail. Friends appear to be jumping ship over the scandal of the prince’s friendship with convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein. After angry backlash following a car crash interview with BBC Newsnight in November, Andrew stepped back from royal duties.
Even his birthday celebrations have come under fire, after it was revealed emails were sent to councils reminding them to fly the Union Jack for the occasion.
The policy has now changed with the government saying there is “no requirement” to fly the flag.
However, it was actually Andrew’s 21st birthday party that Elton John commented on in his 2019 memoir ‘Me’.
According to the rock star, the Duke’s birthday party was “the world’s quietest disco” because no one wanted to offend the Queen, who is apparently not a fan of loud music.

He added that despite the music being “turned down about as low as you could get without switching it off”, he still danced with the monarch and with Princess Anne.
Elton described the event at Windsor Castle in 1981, because it is where he first met his good friend Princess Diana.
He wrote: “Because the Queen was there, and no one wanted to cause any offence to the royal sensibilities, the disco was turned down about as low as you could get without switching it off altogether.”
He added that you could “literally hear your feet moving around on the floor over the music” and “if you strained your ears and concentrated hard, you could just about make out that the DJ had segued from Elvis to ‘Rock around the Clock’”.
Describing his interaction with the Queen, he said: “She walked over to us and asked if she could join us.
“So now I was trying to dance as inaudibly as possible with Princess Anne and the Queen – still holding her handbag – while what appeared to be the world’s quietest disco played Bill Haley.”
Ironically, this year’s party for Andrew may end up being as quiet as his 21st.
A number of guests have reported said they are “unavailable” for the festivities, leading to Fergie’s assistant Jane Clarke having to send out more invitations.
