Prince Andrew humiliated: Duke of York ‘struggling’ to get guests to attend birthday party

Prince Andrew’s birthday will be publicly celebrated later today, as Westminster Abbey will ring its bells at 1pm as the royal turns 60. But the Duke of York will likely not see Union Jacks flying in honour outside Government buildings after stepping back from royal duties. The Queen’s favourite son has since faced embarrassment as guests have failed to RSVP to a party at his home in Windsor.

Speaking to ITV’s Lorraine, Mr said: “Not only did the Queen cancel his birthday but I hear they are struggling to get guests to his little birthday party today.

“This is what’s so staggering. You would think he would just take a backseat and have a private dinner at your house.

“But no he’s still keen to have the big show at the Royal Lodge in Windsor.

“Fergie was desperately trying to send out the invitations.

“Even the councils around the country would normally fly flags on Government buildings for some of the Queen’s children’s birthdays.

“But lots of them have said they’re not going to fly it this year at all because of the absolute scandal and furore with his relationship with Jeffrey Epstein.

“It’s been an absolute car crash for the whole family.

“He’s denied all the allegations but still the FBI want to talk to him in the states.

“This probably would have been one year to stay away from the birthday party.”

The Queen has marked Prince Andrew’s 60th birthday with a brief message published on Instagram and Twitter.

The Royal Family’s social media accounts, which represents the Queen and Prince Philip, wrote: “On this day in 1960, Prince Andrew was born at Buckingham Palace, the first child born to a reigning monarch for 103 years.

“Happy Birthday to The Duke of York.”

The public birthday message wasn’t greeted well by many social media users.

Some claimed it would have been better not to publicly celebrate Prince Andrew’s milestone birthday as the Duke is still suffering from the backlash that hit him in mid-November, following his car crash interview with Newsnight presenter Emily Maitlis.

The 45-minute-long televised chat focused on the Duke of York’s association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

After it aired, Prince Andrew was widely criticised for failing to express his sorrow for the victims of the former financier and for saying he didn’t regret his relationship with him.
