Prince Andrew ‘can never come back’ to Queen’s side as too much ‘mud’ tarnishing Duke

Prince Andrew's future discussed by Jeremy Vine panelists

Prince Andrew has been told that the “best thing he could do for the Queen is to just disappear quietly”. This comes after the Daily Telegraph reported that the Duke of York had appointed a long-term associate as director of Pitch@Palace, one of the only business interests he has left. Former Daily Star Editor Dawn Neesom spoke to Channel 5’s Jeremy Vine about what this meant for a possible comeback for the royal.

She said: “Seriously how can he ever come back?

“There is so much mud, and a lot of it is sticky.

“I just think he can never come back.

“I feel really sorry for the Queen because, once upon a time, he was her favourite son, wasn’t he?”

Ms Neesom added: “She’s really not having a good year, another annus horribilis.

“Andrew can never come back from this, the best thing he can do is to just disappear quietly.”

Pitch@Palace was made in 2014 to “provide a platform to amplify and accelerate the work of Entrepreneurs”, according to its official website.

The initiative was founded by the Duke of York to help connect Entrepreneurs and early-stage businesses with potential supporters.

Following the Jeffrey Epstein scandal, the operation moved out of Buckingham Palace and into an office in London.

The website also took down the entire page listing its supporters.

Some sponsors even announced publicly that they would no longer be associated with the organisation.

Prince Andrew received major backlash after he addressed his relationship with convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein to BBC Panorama.

The Queen’s son also denied allegations he had any sexual contact with an American woman named Virginia Giuffre, formerly Roberts, who claims she was ordered by Epstein to have sex with Andrew, aged 17.

Following the interview, the Duke announced that he would be stepping back from public life and royal duties for the “foreseeable future”.

In a statement, Andrew said: “It has become clear to me over the last few days that the circumstances relating to my former association with Jeffrey Epstein have become a major disruption to my family’s work and the valuable work going on in the many organisations and charities that I am proud to support.

“Therefore, I have asked Her Majesty if I may step back from public duties for the foreseeable future, and she has given her permission.”
