Primary school horror blaze: Building burnt to ground as thick black smoke engulfs homes

West Yorkshire Police said at 7.48pm on Tuesday they received a report of an “intruder alarm” that was triggered at Ash Green Primary School in Clough Lane, Mixenden. One of the buildings was found to be on fire when officers arrived, where “a male was located”. He was arrested and taken to hospital for further treatment, with the fire being treated as “suspicious”.

West Yorkshire said in a statement: “At 7.48pm today (Tuesday), police received a report of an intruder alarm being triggered at Ash Green Primary School in Clough Lane, Mixenden.

“Officers were dispatched to the scene and found one of the buildings on fire.

“Emergency services attended and a male was located.

“He was arrested and taken to hospital for further treatment.

“Officers remain at the scene of the fire, which is being treated as suspicious at this time.

“Anyone with information which may assist is asked to call Calderdale District CID on 101 or via the livechat option on the West Yorkshire Police website, quoting log 1663 of 1 February.

“Information can also be reported anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 or online.”

One local resident claimed the school has been “burnt all the way down”.

“Poor #AshGreenPrimarySchool in #Mixenden #Haliax burnt all the way down.

“Hope people around it are safe and Hope no one was hurt.”
