Pretty little seaside town named best place for a staycation in the UK

A pretty little seaside town in Devon has been named as the best place for a staycation in the UK.

Recent data from Tripadvisor’s Summer Travel Index shows that over 80 per cent of Brits are travelling this summer bank holiday and they’ve listed the top bank holiday destinations in the UK.

Among the top destinations, Dawlish in Devon has bagged first place as one of the most popular domestic bank holiday getaways this year, followed by King’s Lynn, Norfolk and Seahouses, Northumberland. Woolacombe on the North Devon coast also comes in at fourth place.

The traditional seaside town of Dawlish, with its early Victorian and classic Regency style, has long been a popular holiday and day trip destination.

Dawlish has an exciting mix of attractions, places to eat and drink and things to do both in town and nearby.

Alice Jong, Research and Insights Senior Analyst, Media at Tripadvisor said: “With so many eager to get away this summer, early planning and booking are vital to secure preferred accommodations, flights, and experiences.

“With many consumers conscious of cost in the current climate, a little flexibility during the planning process can help to drive down the price of their trips.”

The top feature of the town is the stunning railway line that hugs the coastline, providing breath-taking views of the sea.

Throughout the years, the town has evolved from a fishing and farming community to a popular seaside resort.
