Pregnant teenager fighting for life after tram hits car in Wolverhampton

A pregnant teenager is fighting for her life after a car crashed with a tram in Wolverhampton.

The 17-year-old girl was rushed to hospital after being found in a ‘life-threatening’ condition by paramedics.

She was a passenger in a silver Vauxhall which collided with the tram in the city centre just after 6.30am.

The driver, believed to be a teenage boy, managed to get out of the mangled car and was treated for minor injuries.

The crash caused rush hour chaos in the city with huge tailbacks and the suspension of tram services.

West Midlands Fire Service said: ‘The driver of the car was able to extricate himself before our firefighters arrived.

‘On advice of paramedics, we assisted a pregnant passenger, who was not trapped by injuries, from the car who was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital.’

An ambulance spokesperson added: ‘Staff worked quickly to administer advanced trauma care to the patient at the scene and on route to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham.

‘The second occupant of the car, a teenage boy, was treated for injuries not believed to be serious and was conveyed to New Cross Hospital.’
