Post Office said it will charge customers £10 if they are grumpy or rude
We’ve all had been forced to bite our tongues in jobs and take verbal hits from less than polite customers.
But one post office in Wales has had enough – with workers now adopting a new approach.
A photo on Reddit, shared of a user’s local post office, has gone viral for staff’s no-nonsense approach to rudeness.
The sign reads: ‘If you are grouchy or irritable, or just plain rude: there will be a £10 charge for putting up with you.’
The user who posted the sign suggested it was ‘an attempt at good old British humour.’
He added: ‘I can see Basil Fawlty having a sign like this. Either way I didn’t test the fellow and was done and dusted in less than two minutes.’
The image quickly led to a debate within Reddit’s comment section.
Many praised the approach of the Post Office and heralded the no nonsense approach of staff.
One hoped the sign would help people ‘realise that being abusive to staff isn’t a way to get ahead in life.’
Another user added: ‘I need this where I work. We’d made a fortune!’
But others argued the opposite and one user mused ‘I hope this sign is double-sided’.
Another added: ‘When I worked in shops I never really cared if people were grumpy as long as they didn’t take it out on me.
‘I don’t know what’s going on in your life, you might have a very good reason to be grouchy.’
The sign has since been taken down.
A Post Office spokesperson told Metro.co.uk: ‘We’ve spoken to the Postmaster who tells us they put up the sign as a bit of fun with their customers and have since taken down the sign.
‘This couple who run this branch are very community-minded and popular with their customers, many of whom have seen the funny side.’
