Popular Essex beach evacuated after ‘unexploded bomb found’

A beach has been evacuated after police were called to a suspected piece of “unexploded ordnance” on an Essex beach. Emergency services were called at around 10.30am this morning. Police have set up a 100-metre cordon while they investigate the device that was found by a member of the public.

An Essex Police spokesperson said: “We are currently dealing with a suspected piece of unexploded ordnance discovered on the beach near Clacton Pier. Officers were called to the discovery shortly after 10.30am this morning (Saturday 24 June).

“A 100-metre cordon is in place while enquiries are carried out. We would like to thank members of the public for observing the cordon for their own safety.”

Police are urging people to respect the cordon and keep their distance while they investigate.
