POLL: Will King Charles save the special relationship with the US?
King Charles will meet with US President Joe Biden at Windsor Castle today (Monday) to discuss the UK’s relationship with the US.
The White House has described Mr Biden’s brief visit to the UK en route to this week’s NATO summit in Lithuania as a “mini-state visit” and it is intended “to further strengthen the close relationship between our nations”.
The King is reportedly expected to use their meeting to emphasise that Britain and America have far more in common than what might divide them.
The Telegraph reports that the King is a “gifted diplomat” and is “much liked by world leaders” with the Government hoping the monarch can wield his soft power to strengthen the alliance.
Peter Ricketts, a former senior British diplomat who ran the U.K. Foreign Office told Politico: “They know each other well, they’ll be relaxed with each other, they know how to play the diplomatic game… I think it will be a very friendly, warm, well-thought-out discussion.”

White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan told reporters aboard Air Force One on Sunday: “The president has huge respect for the King’s commitment on the climate issue in particular, that he has been a clarion voice on this issue and more than that, has been an actor, someone who’s mobilised action and effort. So the president comes at this with enormous goodwill.”
This is Mr Biden’s first visit to the UK since the King’s Coronation as First Lady Jill Biden represented the US at the ceremony.
