Officers flooded the street after receiving reports about “concern for the welfare” of a person at a property near Abington, Northampton. One resident said they heard loud bangs but there has been no confirmation shots were fired.

Windows, though, were smashed at a property and an ambulance was also at the scene.

One man, who lives on the street, told Northants Live: “I heard shots fired and windows smashing.

“It was really worrying because when you hear something strange like that it’s like a war starting. But I heard the voices of the police soon after and I can see that they have everything under control.”

Thames Valley Police led the operation and were supported by Northamptonshire Constabulary.

Individuals have been safeguarding as a result of the operation, Thames Valley force said.

A spokesperson for the constabulary said: “Thames Valley Police and Northamptonshire Police have worked together in relation to a welfare concern at an address in Northampton. Officers from both forces attended the address today (December 13).

“Individuals involved have been safeguarded, and no one was injured as a result of police action.

“This incident has now been resolved and is no longer ongoing.”

Neighbourhood Policing Inspector Beth Curlett, said: “This morning (December 13) at about 8am, officers from Northamptonshire Police supported Thames Valley Police in connection with a welfare concern at an address in Northampton.

“The individuals concerned have now been safeguarded, there were no injuries sustained, and there is no wider risk to members of the public in the area.

“Reassurance patrols by local neighbourhood officers will be taking place for the rest of today in the area and anyone with any concerns should approach one of those officers who will be more than happy to help.”
