Police warning: Man shot in both legs in ‘brutal’ attack – alert issued

The victim, who is in his 20s, was targeted while walking through an alleyway in Ulster, west Belfast. Police say he was shot a number of times in both legs.
Detective Sergeant Eric Fairfield said: “Following the incident the victim was taken to hospital for treatment to his injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening.
“This has all the hallmarks of a paramilitary-style shooting.
“It was a planned, vicious and brutal attack, which is completely unacceptable in today’s society.
“I am appealing to anyone with information that could assist our investigation to contact detectives at Musgrave on 101, quoting reference number 28 28/05/20.”
Paramilitary groups still operate in Northern Ireland. They favour either a united Ireland or take a loyalist approach to membership of the UK.
Earlier this month, figures from the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) revealed an annual drop in the number of paramilitary shootings.
Between April 1, 2019, to March 31, 2020, there were 13 casualties, down from 19 in the previous year.
Violence across the UK has increased since the outbreak of coronavirus.
Last week, an investigation was launched after man in his 20s was shot and injured in a “reckless attack” in Liverpool.
The man in his 20s had been found with a gunshot injury on his hip. He was taken to hospital for his injury.
This week, two people, both believed to be in their 70s, were taken to hospital in what was initially thought to be a double-stabbing in north London.
The man had suffered stab injuries but they are not believed to be life-threatening.

The woman was later revealed to not have stab injuries but is in a life-threatening condition.
On Wednesday, an emergency response helicopter was deployed near Alexandra Palace in north London to reports of a stabbing.
A man was reported to be stabbed in the area police confirmed.
Haringey Police has confirmed a man believed to be in his teens has suffered a stab wound following reports of a group of youths fighting in the area.
