Police seal off road in quiet UK town after eight-year-old boy hit by vehicle

The young boy – who was riding his bike – was hit by a vehicle on Hamilton Street, in Stalybridge, at around 5pm on Wednesday evening. The road was cordoned off and is expected to remain closed as police investigate the incident.

Pictures from the scene show a large emergency response, with numerous police vehicles in attendance as well as an ambulance.

The closure is in place from the junction with Cumberland Street and Harrison Street.

Greater Manchester Police confirmed there had been a collision between an eight-year-old boy and a vehicle.

A spokesperson said: “Officers were called to a report of a road traffic collision involving a vehicle and a bicycle on Hamilton Street in Stalybridge just after 5pm today (16 February 2022).

“Emergency services are in attendance and an eight-year-old child from the bicycle was injured.

“A male is currently speaking with officers in connection with the incident.

“Road closures are in place whilst enquiries are on-going.”
