Police officer who spent hours attending sudden death of a baby left angry note on car

The unnamed officer took to Twitter on Monday after discovering the handwritten note on their windscreen which said they had a “£100 fine for shopping on duty”. They had popped into Tesco to pick up a sandwich having spent seven hours attending the death of a baby.

The police officer, whose Twitter handle is @NorthWestCop, posted: “Just left Tesco.

“Handwritten note on the windscreen of my patrol car. ‘£100 fine for shopping on duty’.

“If only I could tell the person who wrote it that I have just spent the last seven hours at the sudden death of a baby.

“I’d bought a sandwich. We’re not robots. #BeKind #WoundUp.”

The post prompted an outpouring of support on social media with people thanking the police officer for the work they do.

One Twitter user commented: “We, the general public, should always let emergency services ahead in the queue.

“Thank you to you and your colleagues for what you do to keep us all safe.”

Another replied: “Maybe the person who wrote this will see this on Twitter and feel suitably ashamed.

“No one knows what heat wrenching job the emergency services have just been to.”

A third wrote: “I would just like to say thank you, I appreciate everything you and your colleagues do for the public. I hope you are alright.

“Look after yourself and always eat and drink whenever you need to, and don’t worry about what others think. If I saw an officer I’d buy him food.”

Another said: “I hope whoever wrote this never needs you services for a similar situation.

“My friends son is a paramedic and has done a full shift on half a sandwich before, I would pass out of that was me.”

A fifth wrote: “Sorry you had to deal with that on top of a difficult shift.”

One more fumed: “That’s disgusting! I’m so sorry somebody felt the need to do that. The majority of us think you’re amazing for doing the job you do.”

The post has received thousands of likes and retweets in 24 hours.

The police officer said in a later tweet they were “absolutely blown away” by the response.

They added: “It’s hard to see at times, as we deal with the worst society has to offer most days, but the good people clearly far outweigh the bad based on the messages I have received.

“My faith in humanity is restored. Thank you.”
