Police officer mowed down by car and now requires surgery after being rushed to hospital

The crash occured at around 10.30pm last night in Oldbury, near the Black Country on Wolverhampton road. The 52-year-old officer was taken to hospital after suffering multiple leg fractures and is due to be operated on later today. West Midlands police have confirmed a 59-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving.

But she has now been released under investigation while enquiries continue.

Force incident manager Inspector Tony Cole said: “Once again we have seen one of our police family injured in the line of duty, and in this instance one of our special constables, who give their time voluntarily to help protect the public.

“Our thoughts are with him and we wish him a speedy recovery.

The special constable was attending the scene a crash when the incident took place.

Anyone who can help with the investigation is asked to contact police on Live Chat at west-midlands.police.uk between 8am and midnight.

Alternatively, people can call 101 anytime, quoting log 2788 of 8/11.

This comes only days after a female police officer was hit by a car near West Bromwich Albion Stadium.

The officer approached a parked Audi A4 while patrolling Holyhead Road, in Handsworth.

The driver quickly sped away, before hitting the officer in the process.

Luckily, the officer was not injured.

And a manhunt was launched last week when another female police officer was struck by an Alfra Romeo she tried to stop in Windermere Avenue, Wembley.
