Police fill helmet with seawater to put out barbecue on Brighton beach
Police confronted two people having a barbecue at Brighton Beach during lockdown, pouring water over the flames from a helmet.
The pair were flouting rules on staying home by grilling food – but were pulled up on it.
Dave Strauss filmed what happened and uploaded it on Twitter, saying: ‘The ceremonial extinguishing of the BBQ using a beach patrol guys helmet. Then tried to eat his wet sausage.’
Commenting underneath, others responded saying they were ‘idiots’ and ‘should be named and shamed’.
They weren’t the only people to go against the lockdown this weekend, with two windsurfers driving 125 miles from the Midlands to North Wales.
Police fined them for the non-essential trip to Gwynedd from Birmingham during the coronavirus pandemic.
A spokesman for North Wales Police said: ‘Today two males from the West Mids area were reported by concerned members of the public who spotted them wind surfing at Black Rock Sands, Porthmadog.
‘They were issued with penalty notices and advised to return home immediately. Their trip was not essential, and apart from the risks posed by travelling around the country potentially spreading virus anywhere they stopped, they could have tied up valuable resources had they had an accident or got into difficulty at sea, risking RNLI, ambulance and diverting essential NHS resources.
‘Stay home to save lives.’
Also this weekend, a park in Lambeth closed its gates after up to 3,000 people went out in large groups, while more than a hundred people sunbathed in Primrose Hill and a family in Newham hosted a party with 25 guests.

Lambeth Council announced Brockwell Park in Brixton, south London would be shut for the weekend after ‘unacceptable behaviour’ from a ‘minority of people’.
Yesterday, it was announced that another 621 people had died after contracting coronavirus, taking the UK death toll to 4,934.
People have been told to stay at home to avoid spreading the disease, with exceptions only for essential shopping, medical reasons, helping the vulerable, exercise or work.
