A motorist has been fined after parking their car across a junction and double yellow lines outside a primary school. The car was parked haphazardly, obstructing the road close to the primary school, prompting police to urge people to have consideration for others.
In response, Greater Manchester Police took to Twitter to complain about the illegal parking, reports the Manchester Evening News. They also asked motorists to be considerate when parking near schools.
In a picture of the offending vehicle, a number of children can be seen in the schoolyard of Kings Road Primary School on Kings Road in Old Trafford, which caters for four to eleven year olds.
GMP Stretford posted: “This vehicle was issued a ticket due to how it was parked outside Kings Road Primary School. Please be considerate when parking near schools. Thinking about those who need to get to school, the children and local residents. We are all busy. But we need to think of each other.”
Twitter users rejoiced at the ticket.
Mary Patel posted: “Thank you so much for addressing this behaviour. It’s persistent and makes it so dangerous for our children crossing these junctions and makes life difficult for other drivers.” While Joe Powell replied: “Impound it!”
MEN readers were also keen to praise the police’s message, and swift response. As one reader commented: “It’s always a nightmare round that school at drop off/pick up time.”
Whilst another wrote: “Hopefully not too many people giving the police grief for this.
“My kid’s school isn’t too bad, but always seems to be the same 4-5 cars parked over lines/at crossings outside the school. It makes crossing dangerous. Likewise, cars parked on the kerbs so you have to squeeze to get through.
“I always have a little smile when I see kids on scooters scratching their way through the gaps between hedges and the car.”
