Plymouth MP Luke Pollard has battled back tears as he discussed the fatal mass shooting that struck the constituency on Thursday evening. The incident in the Keyham area of the city claimed six lives including that of the shooter, named locally as Jake Davison. Talking to Sky News, Mr Pollard described the mass shooting as the “darkest day” in Plymouth’s history since the end of WWII.
An emotional Mr Pollard told Sky News: “To hear the news that there is a shooting taking place in our community is awful.
“But to then hear from local residents and the police that that has resulted in the deaths, and we understand that five people have been killed and the shooter is now dead as well, is just utterly devasting.
“We’ll sadly hear more grim news today when the police start issuing more information about their sense of timeline of events, what happened where and when.
But most importantly who the victims are and what happened in the events yesterday,” added the MP.
Plymouth Sutton & Devonport MP described the shooting which occurred on Biddick Drive shortly after 6PM as “an awful tragedy”
“Probably the darkest day in Plymouth’s history since the end of the Second World War,” added the MP.
Earlier Mr Pollard provided some further information about the incident to TimesRadio, saying: “It seems that after six o’clock yesterday a shooting began that was in Biddick Drive. We understand that has spread out over a wider area in the community.
“The police cordon is over quite a substantial part of the community and we will need to find out more from the police later today.”
