A series of adverts are set to hit UK TV screens this week highlighting the changes surrounding holidays that will be introduced post-Brexit. The Government’s “UK’s new start: let’s get going” campaign will be run across most media platforms, including TV, radio, online, print and billboards. Advice will be given for Britons living in the EU as well as EU citizens living in the UK.

UK and EU businesses will also be given more information on how to prepare for the end of the transition period on December 31.

People will also receive text message alerts.

Westminster has explained that most of the actions that citizens and businesses are being asked to take will need to be completed regardless of the outcome of negotiations between London and Brussels.

As things stand, no deal on trade or security has been reached.

Michel Barnier last week was welcomed into No 10 complete with an entourage of EU advisors and officials.

David Frost, the UK’s chief Brexit negotiator hosted Mr Barnier and his team to a private dinner.

The short stay was intended to broker a deal and clinch vital details required before the end of the year.

Should the UK and EU fail to agree on a deal, the two will trade on WTO rules.

Both sides have expressed the desire to reach an agreement favourable to either power.

Meanwhile, the UK has been trying to secure deals outside the bloc.

Chancellor Rishi Sunak has agreed to make financial ties with Switzerland stronger post-Brexit.

And, a trade deal with Japan is thought to be in the offing, with Tokyo wanting to wrap up details by the end of the month.

Despite the fact many, including Remainers, now view Brexit as inevitable, several notable figures have in the past, and often continue to do so, refuse to acknowledge the process as being a done thing.

Lord Heseltine, who was deputy Prime Minister under John Major, is one such figure.

The Tory peer attempted to thwart the Brexit process several times.

In December 2018, he turned his attention to Britain’s youth.

At a rally in London’s ExCel centre, Lord Heseltine warned that the younger generations will “never forgive” politicians if a second referendum wasn’t held.

He said: “Let us make our position clear. We are the British patriots. We want a Britain at the heart of Europe because we want the voice of Britain, the tolerance of Britain, the culture of Britain, at the heart of Europe. We are proud of our Commonwealth and empire. Our voice is their voice in Europe.

“It is the Brexiteers who seek to belittle us, to undermine our influence, to slam windows, to close doors with the suggestion that our membership of the European community blunts our influence.

“Let me repeat his warning. Let me paraphrase his words. ‘I certainly won’t be here.’ But neither will my generation.

“The parents, the grandparents will have gone. The younger generation, they will be here. They will be here.

“They will never forgive us if we now exclude them from the corridors of European power. Offered a seat in an anteroom as others decide behind closed doors. Invited to submit their views in writing so others may decide behind closed doors.

“Trying to negotiate trade deals on behalf of the United Kingdom in competition with a European Union six times our size offering bigger, better deals behind closed doors.”
