The 37-year-old joined thousands of excited football fans this week as she watched England beat Denmark in the Euro 2020 semi-final at London’s Wembley Stadium. The Duchess of Cambridge’s sister was spotted with her husband James Matthews queuing up to take her place inside the stadium, along with around 60,000 other English and Danish fans. Also at the match was her brother-in-law Prince William, who was in the royal box to represent the Firm – and carry out his duties as the President of the Football Association (FA), England’s footballing governing body.
Although they appeared not to link up at the match, with Kate at the time self-isolating as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, William and Pippa are reportedly close.
Pippa is often spotted with Kate and William, particularly during Wimbledon – the two-week tennis event which concludes this weekend.
And to demonstrate their closeness, William once rushed to Pippa’s aid when her plans for the evening reception of his wedding to Kate were thrown into question.
William and Kate enjoyed an iconic wedding in 2011, which was the toast of the country, with millions watching the couple exchange their vows.
But in the build-up to the special day, royal courtiers were concerned with some of Pippa’s ideas for the reception.
Pippa was chosen by Kate as her Maid of Honour, and little was known about her younger sibling prior to the wedding.
In her role on the special day, some of Pippa’s suggestions on what the ceremony and reception should be like did not go down well with officials inside Buckingham Palace, though.
At first, Pippa and Kate had wanted to use their own caterer for the reception, something William’s father Prince Charles was unhappy about.

As he was funding the entertainment, Charles “stepped in and demanded they use his favourite”, Mosimann’s – headed up by Swiss chef Anton Mosimann OBE.
This “didn’t go down well with the caterers Kate and her sister were intent on using” but they nevertheless bowed to Charles’ request.
Speaking to the Daily Mail’s Rebecca English, Pippa’s desire to “turn the throne room into a nightclub also went down like a lead balloon with Palace aides, who tried to have it stopped”.

In 2011, they added: “But William stepped in and insisted that he wanted the evening event to be very different from the formal champagne and canapé reception being thrown by the Queen immediately after the wedding.
“He wants it to be very young and cool, so the old guard caved in and gave their approval.”
Reflecting on the day, journalist and editor Eve Pollard hailed the impact the wedding had on people watching from the streets and at home.
She said: “This is when the British come into their own.
“We have all the equipment, we have the Household Cavalry, we have the wonderful carriage, we have those ancient Rolls Royces, and there’s great spirit here.
“A spirit that you could say was evocative of 1981 and the wedding of Prince William’s parents, Charles and Diana.”
Kate and William’s strength as a couple has continued until today, and they marked their 10-year wedding anniversary in April.
Since their marriage, they have welcomed three adorable children to the Cambridge fold – Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
