Pippa Middleton’s connection with Boris Johnson revealed: ‘I’m game if she is!’
Mr Johnson is the clear frontrunner to become the next Conservative Party leader and Prime Minister.
In yesterday’s ballot, the former London Mayor secured 126 votes and many believe he is now unstoppable.
The Uxbridge MP’s political life has without a doubt been unconventional, as he found fame as a TV personality before he had achieved anything in politics.
For this reason, the public allowed him to get away with the kind of gaffes that would have sank the careers of others.
His eight years as London Mayor proved he could knuckle down to a serious job, though.
During his time in City Hall, Mr Johnson accepted one in particular, which sparked a lot of media attention as it came from the future Queen’s sister, Pippa Middleton.
In a diary piece for the Spectator magazine in 2013, Ms Middleton threw down the gauntlet to Mr Johnson.
Noting that she had heard the Johnson family were more competitive than the Middletons, she challenged Mr Johnson to a table tennis match to settle the debate.
She wrote: “I’m informed that Boris Johnson, former editor of this magazine, wants to be ‘whiff-whaff’ world king even more than he wants to be Prime Minister.
“I’m also told the Johnsons are almost as competitive as the Middletons.
“So I’d like to lay down a challenge to the mayor … Bring it on, Boris.”
Mr Johnson immediate took to Twitter to accept the challenge, and declared: “I am game if she is!
“Happy for Pippa to join me on a visit and see the benefits of our £22m Sports Legacy Fund in action.”
The Spectator’s gossip columnist later tweeted: “Boris V Pippa. It’s on.
“Pol Roger will be served. And Pippa says she ‘sensed some nerves’ in Boris’s reply – game on.”
Despite the media buzz, the match sadly never took place.
