Piers Morgan rips into Boris Johnson over latest coronavirus measures on Twitter

Mr Johnson chaired a Cobra meeting yesterday which confirmed that the UK will remain in the “containment” stage of its response to the coronavirus. Measures to delay the virus’ spread with “social distancing” are yet to be introduced.

But No.10 did confirm that they accepted that the virus will “spread in a significant way”.

However, Good Morning Britain host Piers was not happy with yesterday’s announcement.

He tweeted: “All of Italy is now in lockdown.

“We’re into completely unprecedented territory with this Coronavirus, yet still @BorisJohnson says we just need to keep washing our hands.

“This cannot be enough surely???”

Some of Piers’ followers agreed with the post and said that the UK should lock down.

One user said: “This is utterly irresponsible of our Government.

“They only care about the economy.

“Thousands will end up dying because of their actions driven by greed.

Michelle said: “Have to agree. His comments today were a disgrace but sadly most of us knew he was useless.

“The Government need to take this more seriously or do they just not care?”

Harry replied: “I’ll never ever say this again. @piersmorgan you’re right.”

Sean said: “Writing from Rome, I can tell you that you’d be better taking these steps in the UK sooner rather than later.”

However, some Twitter users were quick to criticise the former journalist for “scaremongering” and causing “panic”.

One user said: “Piers enough already, you and your ilk are the ones causing a panic, what do you want us to do close down the country ok for how long a week a month, three months and what then, everyone gets back to normal then all of a sudden it breaks out again because someone turns up from abroad?”

Another said: “Piers I’m a big big fan of yours but surely you must realise that Boris is being guided by scientists and he has to make a judgement based off evidence.

“Please be responsible and don’t kick this around which can cause ultimate panic with the number of followers you have.”

Another replied: “I’m not sure what your motives are on this, but you are needlessly causing worry and concern.

“Please let the experts be experts. Report what they say.

“You are not on Cobra – so please assume that better brains are structuring a measured response and pipe down.”

Piers has been using Twitter to publicly criticise the Conservative Government for not tackling the coronavirus crisis properly.

Calling Prime Minister Mr Johnson “pathetic”, he expressed his disappointment in Number 10 for not allowing the Prime Minister or any cabinet member to appear on GMB to discuss the latest epidemic that’s spreading rapidly around the world.

“Honestly, it’s pathetic. I am so disappointed in @BorisJohnson for allowing his No10 press team to treat journalists like this given he was one himself,” he wrote.

“The coronavirus crisis is too important for these stupid games – our viewers are as important as anyone else’s.”

The host has loudly expressed his fears about the pandemic getting worse than the public are being led to believe, and apologised once again to his ITV viewers about the Government’s alleged GMB boycott.
