Piers Morgan laughs at Gary Linekar complaint about Brexit delaying BBC Match of the Day

The presenter of the BBC premier league football highlights show shared his concern as MPs furiously debated Boris Johnson’s Brexit deal in a historic sitting of Parliament today. He tweeted: “Hearing Match of the Day might be delayed by Brexit tonight. “Whatever happens we’ll remain on BBC One.”

This prompted a reaction from Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan, who couldn’t help making a jibe about the former footballer’s appearance.

He tweeted in response: “Poor Jugs…his Brexit-venting spleen may not survive this.”

Piers also used several “laughing face” emojies to emphasise his mocking.

Match of the Day normally airs at around 10.35pm every Saturday night.

But it is expected to be shown at a later time of 10.55 tonight instead.

This is due to live broadcasting of MPs voting for the Prime Minister’s deal which he agreed with EU leaders at earlier this week.

MPs voted in favour of the Oliver Letwim amendment, which gave MPs a second chance to stop no deal in the event that MPs back Mr Johnson’s agreement.

Piers and Gary have been embroiled in various Twitter spats over Brexit.

Back in August, Piers said Gary had “howled for three years” that the UK should ignore the referendum result.

This came after Gary complained about Mr Johnson getting the Queen’s permission to prorogue Parliament – before it was then ruled to be unlawful by the Supreme Court.

Gary tweeted at the time: “The government’s argument that they’re doing this for democracy is remarkably undemocratic.”

But Piers responded: “Says the man who has howled for 3yrs that we should ignore the result of a democratic vote…”

Gary then hit back that Brexiteers had been “crooked” in the way Brexit was sold to the public.

He tweeted: “Never have i said that we should ignore the result. That indeed would be undemocratic.

“We could though look at the crooked, lying nature of how it was sold to us back then by the elite now dictating (literally) and decide as a democratic country if that’s still what we want.”

Piers responded to the BBC star, who is paid £1.75m a year: “Mate, it doesn’t get more elite than you…as BBC licence fee payers know to our cost.”

This prompted a further reply from Gary: “Mate, it doesn’t get much more elite than ostentatiously showing off your wealth (you constantly tell me you earn way more than me) with a deluge of pictures by marauding, around the Côte d’Azur on a yacht.”

Piers had the final say as he said: “I don’t pretend not to be in the elite… and it’s not my fault I earn far more than you, it’s my talent.”
