Piers Morgan demands Cummings RESIGN over alleged lockdown breach

According to an investigation by the Guardian and the Mirror, police attended a Durham address were a member of the public claimed to have seen Mr Cummings 250 miles from the Prime Minister’s special advisor’s North London home. The previous day a Number 10 official had told a coronavirus briefing that Mr Cummings was self-isolating after showing coronavirus symptoms whilst time the Government was advising against all non-essential travel. Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan took to Twitter to express his outrage commenting: “Boris Johnson must have known where Cummings was self-isolating.

“Why did you let your chief adviser break your lockdown rules, Prime Minister?”

The news of Mr Cumming’s self-isolation came days after Mr Johnson and Health and Social Secretary Matt Hancock confirmed they had tested positive for the virus.

Mr Cummings was elevated to his advisor position shortly after Mr Johnson became Prime Minister.

Mr Morgan added: “Every second Cummings tries to cling on, he further damages Boris Johnson.


“He knows this, Boris knows this, we all know this.”

Harry Cole, deputy political editor of the Mail on Sunday tweeted: “A close friend of Cummings gets in touch: ‘Dom isn’t remotely bothered by this story… There is zero chance of him resigning.’

“At the same time there are others in government raging.

“And friends and family in touch question it why we are all following the rules.

“This is going to be a long bank holiday weekend for no10.”

Mr Cummings was the campaign director of Vote Leave.

He has been credited by some as a mastermind behind Brexit.

Jim Pickard, the chief political correspondent of the Financial Times, added: “I can assure you that some Tory ministers are privately taken aback, gobsmacked, outraged by this story.”

The Evening Standard tweeted that friends of Mr Cummings added: “He isn’t remotely bothered by this story, it’s more fake news from the Guardian. There is zero chance of him resigning.”

Mr Morgan retweeted this quote and added: “The breathtaking arrogance of this tool.

“It’s truthful news & there’s zero chance of Cummings surviving.”

The BBC’s Laura Kuenssberg says she has been told Mr Cummings and his wife stayed in a separate building whilst in Durham.

The SNP’s Westminster leader Ian Blackford has called on Mr Cummings to resign while Sir Ed Davey, acting leader of the Liberal Democrats called on him to do so if he had broken guidelines.

The Labour Party have called for an explanation into Mr Cummings’ actions.

Durham Constabulary said: “On Tuesday, March 31, our officers were made aware of reports that an individual had travelled from London to Durham and was present at an address in the city.

“Officers made contact with the owners of that address who confirmed that the individual in question was present and was self-isolating in part of the house.

“In line with national policing guidance, officers explained to the family the guidelines around self-isolation and reiterated the appropriate advice around essential travel.”
