Piers Morgan blasts Boris Johnson over ‘ridiculous’ coronavirus delay

The GMB host directly mentioned Boris Johnson and asked him to “make decisions”. This scathing response from Piers followed public backlash after the Conservative leader addressed the nation on Friday, where he proclaimed “many” families will lose loved ones amid the outbreak of the COVID-19.

The former Daily Mirror editor raged: “New York closing its schools.

“Meanwhile, Britain’s schools have no idea what to do.

“Make decisions @BorisJohnson – we’re the only country doing nothing to fight Coronavirus except wash our b* hands as we sing Happy Birthday. Ridiculous.”

The tweet followed a report from NBC that all schools, bars and restaurants in New York City would be closed due to coronavirus concerns.

Governor Andrew Cuomo ordered schools be closed in New York City.

As Ohio and Illinois ordered all bars and restaurants in the states to shut down service.

It comes as US cases have jumped well past 3000 cases of reported coronavirus.

Mr Cuomo also said in a statement that New York City must put a plan in place to make sure that children who rely on school meals will still get fed and that parents, especially health care workers and first responders, will be provided child care.

“It is time to take more dramatic measures,” the mayor said, adding that he knows “the full cost of shutting our schools.”

The decision came on a day when states and cities across the country took more dramatic measures to contain the coronavirus.

Meanwhile, the UK is moving into the “delay’ response to the virus outbreak.

This means that now anyone with flu-like symptoms should remain at home for seven days, all schools should not take trips abroad and older people and those with existing health conditions should avoid cruises.

Further measures will be introduced as the number of coronavirus infections moves towards its peak.

Everyone aged over 70 will be told “within the coming weeks” to stay at home for an extended period.

If someone in your home falls ill, the whole household will be told to isolate itself for 14 days.

However, so far the government have not enforced school closures, restrictions on public transports or stopping public gatherings.

Other countries such as Italy and France have already introduced these serious measures.

It comes as the government said one in five workers will be sick during a major outbreak.

There will be significant deaths amongst elderly people, health conditions, like heart or lung problems.

Boris Johnson said: “The coronavirus is the worst public health crisis for a generation.”

He added: ”We should all be thinking about our relatives.”
