Piers Corbyn booted from Extinction Rebellion event after ‘devil’ rant

Piers Corbyn is escorted out of hospital by police

Piers Corbyn, brother of former Labour Party leader Jeremy, was forced out of a London church service held for eco-activists earlier today. The prominent conspiracy theorist and leading climate change denier accused those who attended the Extinction Rebellion service of “working for the devil”. He furiously berated the eco-activists, telling them that climate change “does not exist,” before he was escorted out of St John’s Church in Waterloo.

The event at the church – a discussion on climate change labelled ‘No Faith in Fossil Fuels’ – was organised as part of the four days of Extinction Rebellion protests this weekend.

Video shared online shows Piers Corbyn standing up after gate-crashing the event and accuse those attending of “selling lies”.

Mr Corbyn was soon heckled by a number of those at the event, while officials quickly acted to remove him.

The activists also began to sing the John Newton hymn Amazing Grace to drown out the outspoken anti-vaxxer, who was ushered out of the church.

Mr Corbyn continued his protest outside the church with a loudspeaker.

Chine McDonald, director of the Christian think-tank Theos, tweeted: “Incredibly moving moment when Piers Corbyn tried to disrupt the gathering, but was gently ushered out by an impromptu collective singing of Amazing Grace, complete with harmonies.

“May have also had a little argument with him for handing out leaflets outside and telling people to pray for more CO2.”

The event involved representatives from Christian Aid, Christian Climate Action, Tearfund and the Catholic charity Cafod

Christian Aid said the plan was to “come together to pray for our leaders (church, nation, world) to take the necessary action to tackle the current climate emergency”.

Mr Corbyn was a vocal opponent of Covid vaccines and lockdown restrictions during the pandemic.

He also claims that climate change is caused by lunar and solar phases, not carbon dioxide emissions.

The disruption comes as Extinction Rebellion stages a four-day demonstration across the capital, which it has estimated will attract up to 50,000 activists in an event they are calling “The Big One”.

On Friday, groups of protesters chanted and danced outside departments down Whitehall on Friday.

It is the group’s first major action since announcing it would move away from more controversial methods of protest.

Instead, the activists have pledged to “prioritise attendance over arrest and relationships over roadblocks”.

It has called on the government to enter into negotiations with them, giving them until 5pm on 24 April to agree to this.

Climate activists have promised that the protests this weekend will not disrupt the London Marathon which takes place on Sunday.
