Prince Harry looks set to fly back to the UK in time to attend his grandfather’s funeral after Prince Philip died today aged 99. Prince Harry would “not miss Prince Philip’s funeral for the world,” according to The Sun’s former royal editor Duncan Larcombe. Speaking to Mark Dolan on talkRADIO, Mr Larcombe recalled the tight bond between Harry and Philip, who shared the “same sense of humour”.

He said: “They were close. People always talk about Prince Philip’s sense of humour and Harry certainly shared that sense of humour.

“That relationship with Harry became particularly important when Diana died. Harry was only 12.

“Whatever has been said or done over the last year from Harry’s point of view, I think today he will be very sad and very keen to return and pay his respects as soon as possible.

“The only thing that would stop him are possible travel restrictions because of Covid.”

Mr Larcombe continued: “Put that aside, I don’t think he would miss the funeral for the world.”

TalkRADIO host Mark Dolan suggested that a “positive” out of the tragedy could be that the funeral becomes a “healing moment for the family if they are able to come back together”.

The royal expert responded: “Of course, what more does it take for the warring princes to realise that some things are more important than who said what to who and when.

“The continuity of the monarchy is all really the Queen would want for her lasting legacy.

“Now is not the time to continue rifts within the family.

“Let’s hope Prince Philip’s passing is definitely the beginning of the end of this silly nonsense for Harry and William.”

It is thought that Prince Harry could use diplomatic exemption to avoid quarantine ahead of Philip’s funeral.

This would enable the Duke of Sussex to skip the normal Covid quarantine when he flies to the UK from the US to attend the funeral.

While the full details of the funeral arrangements have yet to be released by Buckingham Palace, leaked information on the Government’s website suggests the ceremony will take place next Saturday.

Harry, 36, is not expected to be joined by Meghan, 39, when he flies in for the sombre affair as she is heavily pregnant with their second baby, a girl.

Under the Government’s Covid travel rules, overseas arrivals have to quarantine for 10 days after touching down in England.

But the Duke is understood to be permitted to use a diplomatic exemption to waive the self-isolation requirement.
