Petrol stations have experienced severe shortages over the last week. Frenzied panic buying, Brexit, and pandemic-based HGV shortages have left stations across the UK at crisis point, with the military now on standby. Maps show how severe the situation has become, with alerts springing up on traffic monitoring services.
The petrol shortage has ignited queues across major traffic arteries, according to the AA.
The motoring association’s official service shows drivers what to expect on the roads, and today has several active fuel alerts.
Services across the country currently have “no fuel available” notices attached to map markers.
Many of these fall on service locations in and around the M25 and have caused queues.
According to the AA, the following services have “no fuel available” this morning:
M40 Southbound at Warwick Services between J13 and J12
M5 Northbound at Michaelwood Services
M1 at Markham Vale Services Markham Vale/Bolsover (petrol available for lorries)
M20 at J8 A20 Ashford Road Leeds Castle/Maidstone Services
M1 both ways at M1 Leicester Forest East Services (diesel pumps only)
M1 at Daventry Services off J16
M25 clockwise at Clacket Lane Services (lorry pumps)
M20 at Stanford Services around Hythe/Westenhanger
This list is not exhaustive, as the AA relies on public reports for stations lacking fuel, meaning many more may be experiencing issues this morning.
The eight stations listed by the AA are currently a drop in the ocean of those experiencing issues.
The Petrol Retailer’s Association has warned that two-thirds of its members have reported running out of fuel.
The association represents roughly 5,500 outlets, the remaining third of which are currently “partly dry and running out soon”.
One organisation has now initiated efforts to limit petrol to a select few drivers.

Euro Garages (EG) Group, which runs Texaco, Esso, BP and Shell stations across the UK, has introduced a fuel cap.
The organisation operates 367 fuel stops across the country and has now introduced a £30 petrol limit.
The cap will affect non-HGV drivers while the “unprecedented demand” lasts in the UK.
An EG Group spokesperson said the limit would give drivers a “fair chance” to get the petrol they need, cutting down on panic buying and reducing pressure on station operators.
The Government is currently toying with plans to introduce countrywide limits prioritising key workers.
They would receive “priority access” for pumps, and drivers would have to abide by a countrywide cap.
The move comes as the Prime Minister faces pressure from NHS groups, unions, politicians and medical groups.
Boris Johnson has already ordered 150 army tanker drivers receive training to deliver petrol while HGV numbers dwindle.
