A vulnerable pensioner was spat at after asking a man to keep two meters away while they queued to use a cashpoint.

The victim, in his 70s, was withdrawing money at a Natwest branch in Spalding, Lincolnshire, when the other customer bumped into his arm at around midday on April 14.

Because his age places him at particular risk of catching coronavirus, he tried to remind the younger man of the need to be careful and observe the two meter social distancing rule.

But rather than apologise or acknowledge the polite warning, the other man spat at the pensioner, hitting the back of his head.

The incident was reported to Lincolnshire Police who have launched an investigation into the matter and are treating it as a suspected assault.

They released a CCTV image of a man they would like to speak to in connection with the alleged offence and asked that anyone with information get in touch with them or contact Crimestoppers.
