Passengers warned to travel only if ‘absolutely necessary’

Network Rail said some journeys will be “significantly disrupted” heading into January because of union workers walking out over pay and conditions.
Trains are expected to be much busier than usual in the run-up to New Year’s Day, before a week of nationwide strikes by members of the RMT and Aslef unions from January 3.
Daniel Mann, director of industry operations at the Rail Delivery Group (RDG), said: “We advise passengers to only travel if it is absolutely necessary, allow extra time and check when their first and last train will depart.”
A three-day strike by the RMT ended yesterday but there were delays as stations including London’s King’s Cross stayed closed and trains were hit by engineering works. The RMT strike again on January 3, 4, 6 and 7.
