Paramedic filmed stealing £60 from woman, 94, moments after she collapsed and died

A brazen paramedic was caught on camera stealing £60 from a 94-year-old woman’s home – just moments after she collapsed and died. The thief rifled through the recently deceased woman’s belongings and put the money in his pocket.

But when the 58-year-old paramedic realised there was a camera that had filmed him taking the money from a side table and looking through her things he put the notes back.

The victim’s son saw what Titley had done and said it made him “sick to his stomach”.

Titley was one of four medics called to the woman’s home in Shrewsbury on June 29 last year, after reports that she had collapsed in the garden.

They tried to resuscitate her for around 20 minutes before she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Shrewsbury Crown Court heard that Titley then entered the woman’s home in search of a “do not resuscitate” form.

But he was filmed rifling through a box full of cash and lifting up the notes to count them before placing around £60 in his trouser pocket.

The court heard that when Titley looked around and spotted the camera he immediately took the notes out of his trousers and put them back in the box.

But when the woman’s son saw the footage he reported it to West Mercia Police. The court heard he felt “disgusted and sick to my stomach” on watching it.

Titley initially denied the allegation and told police that his intention was to “secure” the cash and take it out to family members.

But he later admitted theft and was given an 18-week prison sentence, suspended for 12 months.

Mail Online reports that he was also ordered to carry out 120 hours of unpaid work and pay £530 costs and a £187 victim surcharge.

The court heard Titley, of Linley Avenue, Pontesbury, was no longer a serving paramedic. He had retired from West Midlands Ambulance Service days after the incident.

Assistant chief ambulance officer, Nathan Hudson, said: “Our staff will be horrified one of their former colleagues would do something like this.

“We hold a position of trust when we enter someone’s home and these sorts of actions rightly put a stain on all of our reputations which is deeply regrettable and makes it much harder for staff who are still working.

“We are pleased that this was taken to court and dealt with by the criminal justice system.”
