Owner’s horror as XL Bully mauls pet to death

A chihuahua dog was “flung like a toy” by an XL bully, which mauled the pet to death, claims its devastated owners.

Dave and Laura Williams lost their beloved Luca during the attack in Falmouth and want owners of dangerous breeds to ensure their dogs are muzzled to avoid more deaths.

They said their pet was shaken “like a rag doll” during the attack.

Ms Williams, who described Luca as “her baby”, was taking her to the field for a walk near Eve Parc when Luca was attacked on October 6, reported Cornwall Live.

She said: “He was on a lead, he’s always on a lead, I never take him off a lead. There was a group of kids in the middle of the field and that dog, XL bully dog, (it) just came running towards us. One of them was shouting ‘no, no, no, no, no’.

“I was going in circles trying to protect him, flying around; I was trying to catch him but I couldn’t because the dog was on me.

“He just wouldn’t let go and I just tried to open the dog’s mouth and I just couldn’t.”

She said she punched the XL Bully but it didn’t have an effect. The couple expressed their thanks to a young man called Keaton who rushed to help as Luca “was just being flung around like a toy”.

Ms Williams frantically called her husband at work, but it was too late.

She added: “I had to leave him in the other dog’s mouth because I knew I couldn’t do anything. Keaton, he was amazing. We were trying to work out a plan, I was trying to get Luca and he was trying to get the other dog off of him.”

When the XL Bully finally dropped Luca, Laura and Keaton picked him up and took him to the vets but it was too late.

Police have confirmed the XL Bully has been put down.

Luca was so loved by the couple he even attended their wedding and appeared in the photos.

Mr Williams added: “What Laura’s had to go through is horrendous. What we wanted to say is certain breeds of dogs, just think about how it’s worth muzzling them every single walk.

“If that had happened it could have avoided the deaths of these two dogs.”

Devon and Cornwall Police said they were called to the area of Falmouth on Friday at around 3.30pm “following a report that an XL bully dog had attacked and killed a chihuahua”.

It was also reported that the dog had bitten a person who attempted to intervene, resulting in a minor injury to the person’s hand.

“The XL bully was put to sleep at the vets following the incident, at the request of the owner. Enquiries remain ongoing in relation to this matter.”
