The allegations made by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in their interview with Oprah Winfrey in March are still causing tension in the Royal Family. It has been claimed The Queen did not take “ownership” of the racism allegations Meghan made earlier this year, as the row between the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and the Royal Family is reignited. The latest claims of a royal rift emerge in an epilogue to the biography on Harry and Meghan, “Finding Freedom”, written by Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand.

Meghan and Harry have always said the authors wrote the book without their cooperation, but the claims could nevertheless worsen relations between the Sussexes and The Firm.

The Duchess of Sussex alleged that concerns were raised in the Firm about Archie’s skin colour before he was born, and also said she was denied help amid her mental health struggles.

Oprah revealed in April that she spoke privately to Meghan prior to the interview to establish what the Duchess wanted from the interview.

She said: “Whenever I’m doing interviews with anybody for anything that is significant, I have a conversation with them before.

“I didn’t see Harry and Meghan before but I did text them and say intention is very important to me, tell me what your intention is, so that we can be aligned in our goal.

“And our shared intention was the truth. They wanted to be able to tell their story and tell it in such a way that allowed them to be as truthful as possible.”

Oprah added that she was taken aback by the impact of the interview, and was surprised Meghan went “all the way there” with her accusations.

The American TV star added: “I had no idea that it would have the reverberating impact that it has had and continues to have. I did a lot of preparation for that.”

She also defended “truthful” Meghan.

Following the airing of the interview, Buckingham Palace issued a statement saying she was “saddened” by the allegations, but added that “some recollections may vary”.

This statement is addressed in excerpts from “Finding Freedom” – the book claims the statement “did not go unnoticed”.

Last month, publisher of the book HarperCollins said the epilogue in the paperback edition will share: “Behind the scenes of Harry and Meghan’s groundbreaking interview with Oprah, details behind the couple’s move to California (and) the various philanthropic and business endeavours the Sussexes have been involved with since their move and what’s to come with Archewell Productions.”

It will also feature: “The continuous challenges the couple face regarding privacy and the British press (and) the heartbreak the couple felt over Prince Philip’s death.”

The Sun also reports that Mr Scobie claimed Harry blames his dad Prince Charles and brother Prince William for falling to “own” their part in the ensuing spat.

The book claims a conversation between Harry and his brother outside the chapel in Windsor was their “first face-to-face conversation in almost 15 months”.

The book adds that they went on to have “at least two further conversations” during his trip back.

He was also said to have talked briefly with his dad Charles but the book claims issues between the two remained “unresolved.”
