A person has died after an explosion at a home in east London.

In a statement, the Metropolitan Police said: ‘Emergency services have now entered the building and sadly, one person has been pronounced dead.

‘We’re working to locate and inform next of kin.

‘Road closures remain in place. The incident is not being treated as terror-related.’

They said earlier: ‘Officers are assisting @LondonFire at the scene of an explosion at a residential property in Waddington Road, #E15.

‘Police were called at 7.54am today. No reported injuries. Road closures are in place and several nearby homes have been evacuated. Enquiries are ongoing.’
