Once-thriving UK town now a ghetto where louts poo in the street
A former proud industrial town in the heart of Britian has become awash with louts pooing in the streets and sex sold from cars.
Lye, near Dudley, in the West Midlands, has suffered a steep decline over the last 10 years forcing many to leave the town as it succumbed to undesirable behaviour.
In June last year Dudley Council imposed a three-year Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) aimed at curbing sickening anti-social behaviour, such as “urinating and defecating” on the streets and open drug and alcohol abuse.
The Sun reports the authority issued £1,000 on-the-spot fines for anyone breaching the conditions of the order with the torrid behaviour.
According to the Birmingham Mail the order bans: “The consumption of alcohol or having an open container of alcohol in your possession (license premises excluded).
“The supply, ingestion, inhalation, injection, smoking or otherwise using intoxicating substances. The congregation and/or behaviour of persons that result in nuisance, alarm, harassment or distress to other persons (including begging). Urinating or defecating in a public space (except in a toilet).”
In July last year, just a month after the order was issued, a disturbance involving 20 men broke out on the High Street forcing police to intervene. But it seems despite police and council intervention problems continue for residents of the neglected town.
Retired dental nurse Eve, 70, told The Sun on Friday morning: “We’ve just seen a young woman who was clearly discussing her rates with a bloke in a car. It doesn’t exactly give out the best message at this time of day.”

Another resident, a retired accountant called John, 76, told the paper “Lye used to be a lovely town” but “half the shops are shuttered up” and “only a couple of restaurants are left”.
Fly-tipping has become a problem and residents claim homeless people often take to the streets in the early evening to drink and take drugs.
Conservative councillor Dave Borley said since the PSPO order there was “not so much defecation and urination now”.
Councillor Patrick Harley, leader of Dudley Council, told The Sun: “The PSPO has been in place in Lye since July 2021 and has overwhelming local support, with 98 per cent of residents in favour of the order.
“The order is in place for three years and we will evaluate its effectiveness and consider an extension at the end of this time.
“We will also shortly be implementing a service to support with monitoring and enforcement of PSPOs across the borough to further help residents and visitors to feel safe and welcome in their communities.”
