Omani student stabbed to death for his watch outside Harrods

A 26-year-old man knifed to death outside Harrods for his luxury watch has been named as Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Araimi.

The Omani student was walking home from a restaurant in Knightsbridge when a gang of masked robbers pounced on him.

A friend says he was stabbed in the back as he tried to find them off and stop them from taking his watch, which was believed to be a Rolex.

It marked 24 hours of bloodshed in the capital which saw three people in their 20s killed.

Mr Al Araimi was pronounced dead at the scene at around 1am on Friday morning.

A friend of his told MailOnline: ‘One of the thieves tried to steal Mohammad’s expensive watch – I think a Rolex – but he fought back. There was a struggle and he was stabbed.

‘His friend tried to help and was also stabbed. Mohammad sadly died but his friend survived and is in hospital at the moment.

‘This is a truly awful, shocking crime to happen in the middle of London in front of such a famous department store known all around the world.’

Scotland Yard confirmed the victim’s friend, believed to be from Bahrain, suffered non-life threatening injuries after two males attacked them.

Mr Al Araimi, from Princes Gate Apartments, Knightsbridge, is thought to have lived in Britain for the last three years.

In the same 24 hours he was stabbed, two other young men lost their lives in the capital.

Rapper Crosslom Davis, 20, also known as Bis, was knifed just after 3.30am on Friday in Deptford, south-east London.

He is now the second member of the Harlem Spartans drill music group to be stabbed to death.

Fellow performer Latwaan Griffiths lost his life in August 2018 at just 18 years old.

The group, who regularly rapped about gang warfare and stabbings, were heralded by Tim Westwood after performing on BBC Radio 1 DJ’s YouTube channel in 2017.

England footballer Jadon Sancho, 19, led tributes to Mr Davis online, tweeting ‘Rest up bis’ with a picture of the young man.

At 2pm on Thursday, Exauce Ngimbi, 22, was found with stab wounds in Hackney, east London after an unrelated attack.

He later died from his injuries, despite the efforts of paramedics from London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance.

A 14-year-old boy, a 23-year-old man and two 26-year-old men were arrested on suspicion of murder.

Kieran Brown, 26, of Hackney was charged in the early hours of this morning with murder and possession of a bladed article.

The other three people arrested have been bailed as investigations continue.

Brown will appear in Thames Magistrates’ Court later today.

Speaking outside Scotland Yard on Friday afternoon, Commander Jane Connors said the killings were not linked.

She added: ‘Each of these attacks is a tragedy – not just for the victims and their families but for the wider communities who are left reeling by this senseless violence.

‘Our highly experienced teams of investigators are working relentlessly to determine exactly what happened and bring those responsible to justice.’

She added more officers would be on patrol in the areas where the attacks took place, including armed units.

Last year, there were 141 police-recorded homicides in the capital – the highest in a calendar year since 2008 – according to official Home Office statistics.

The PA news agency has identified 129 homicides so far in 2019, with three weeks of the year to go.
