‘Oldest cat’ celebrates 32nd birthday with salmon cake

A cat from Norwich celebrated her 32nd birthday making her possibly the oldest feline in the UK. Rosie, a tortoiseshell cat from Eaton Park, marked the occasion by indulging in a special miniature cake made of red salmon with her doting owner. However, she needed assistance from owner Lila Brissett to blow out the candles.

Celebrating her 32nd birthday last week, Rosie, who was born on June 1, 1991, has reached the impressive milestone of 140 in human years.

Lila, 71, who has cared for Rosie since she was a kitten, mentioned that all her pets lived to a “ripe old age,” but Rosie has outlived them all.

Currently, the oldest recorded cat is Flossie from Orpington, London, who is 27 years old.

Mrs Brissett shared that she adopted Rosie, whom she fondly describes as a “fluffball,” as a rescue.

Remarkably, Rosie has only visited the vet twice throughout her entire life.

Mrs Brissett is currently waiting for verification from Guinness World Records regarding Rosie’s age and hopes to secure the title as the oldest cat.

These days, Rosie primarily enjoys the simple pleasures of “eating and sleeping”, according to Mrs Brissett.

Mrs Brissett, who lost her husband Desmond three years ago, said: “She is lovely.

“I love my animals but I don’t think I will have any more pets now as I can’t walk very far.”

The 71-year-old has had the cat since she was a kitten and said: “My niece is just as nuts about animals as I am, and she contacted John West who sent Rosie two tins of salmon.

“She also contacted Purina who have sent a £5 voucher, as Rosie is fussy and will only eat John West salmon and Purina One biscuits.”

She added: “When I found out I could not have children I thought ‘I will get a cat’.

“I have had lots of animals and they all live to a ripe age.

“It’s about giving them lots of great love and care – and I am completely nuts which helps!”

Creme Puff, from Austin, Texas, holds the title for the oldest cat ever recorded.

This remarkable feline lived until August 6, 2005, and celebrated an astonishing lifespan of 38 years and 3 days.
