Nursery in lockdown after toddlers and staff suffer mystery 'rash and cough'
Parents at a nursery have been ordered to take their children home and wash them after the breakout of a mystery illnesss.
Decontamination teams were called in to Kindred Huntingdon Day Nursery in Brampton, Cambridgeshire, yesterday morning after 13 toddlers and staff fell ill.
A witness said parents were being advised to strip their children and give them showers.
The situation was so serious the UK Health Security Agency was called in to help fire crews to assess the break-out.
Police also put up a cordon around the school while the rashes and coughs were investigated by medical teams.
In a joint statement, emergency crews said yesterday: ‘We are currently dealing with an incident on Thrapston Road, Brampton and emergency services are present as a precaution.
‘A small number of children and staff at a nursery are feeling unwell and have experienced some mild symptoms including a rash and cough.
‘We are currently investigating the cause of this and as a precaution have emergency service staff on site.
‘Parents have been notified and the children are safe and being looked after.
‘We are working together with the nursery to determine what the cause may be and if any measures need to be put in place to stop any further instances happening.
‘This is all precautionary whilst we investigate and there is no current identified risk to the wider community.’
