No more Covid restrictions before New Year, Sajid Javid confirms
The government will not impose any further Covid restrictions in England before the New Year, Health Secretary Sajid Javid has confirmed this afternoon.
But ‘people should remain cautious’ when enjoying celebrations on New Year’s Eve, Mr Javid warned.
The Health Secretary said: ‘Since we learned about Omicron our strategy has been to buy time, time to assess it and time to build our defences.

‘While there’s still a lot of uncertainty around this new variant, we do know that our very best form of defence is vaccination.’
And he warned how a ‘disproportionate’ number of people being admitted to hospital are unvaccinated.
