The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are not showing “any chance” of becoming full-time royals in the future, the author of a new Meghan Markle biography claimed. However, he added that Prince Harry and Meghan could be “welcomed back” for occasional royal duties and appearances. Sean Smith, who wrote ‘Meghan Misunderstood’, spoke to ITV’s Lorraine about whether there will ever be a role for the couple again in Britain.

He said: “I don’t think there is any chance of them being full-time royals in the future.

“It was only if there was some sort of compromise, and it takes two sides to compromise.

“I think they would be a great addition coming back as and when.

“I think everyone would be very pleased to see them, they have enormous popular appeal.”

Meghan and Harry’s exit deal with the monarchy is set to be reviewed in spring next year.

This has been perceived by many as the Queen leaving the door open for their possible return.

However the couple has already fulfilled their pledge to become “financially independent” from the Royal Family, with the confirmation that they have repaid their £2.4million taxpayer-funded renovation of Frogmore Cottage.

They have also not been taking money from the Duchy of Cornwall since April, and have secured their own multi-million dollar deal with US streaming giant, Netflix.

Mr Smith added insight into how the Duchess had not been “treated seriously enough” in the UK.

He told Lorraine: “I just don’t think she is treated seriously enough.

“She had a journey to becoming a woman of substance and that is what I try and portray in the book.”

The biographer continued: “The negativity surrounding Meghan Markle is endless.

“She gets criticised for cleaning her teeth in the morning, let’s face it. It’s ridiculous.

“She didn’t wear a hat, she wore an off-the-shoulder dress, she shut her own car door, shock horror… it’s ridiculous.

“She was a very serious person before she met Prince Harry.

“He doesn’t come into my book until page 175, and by then this was a woman that has received a standing ovation led by the Secretary-General of the United Nations.”
