Nightmare neighbour so bad they ended up on Channel 5 finally takes down caravan
A woman who was forced to take down an illegal caravan in her garden has left the pieces ‘strewn across the grass’.
Lillie Goddard’s makeshift house extension, comprised of a shipping container and caravan, featured on Channel 5’s documentary My Nightmare Neighbour Next Door.
She claimed the mobile home was temporary living quarters for her and her disabled mum while construction took place inside her house.
Goddard also used the shipping container to ‘store building materials’ but this was removed last June.
However, neighbours believed the construction story was a ruse for her moving out so it could be rented out to multiple tennants at a time.
After Swindon Borough Council took legal action in February, a court ruled Goddard did not have the right planning permissions and ordered her to remove the caravan by August 5.
While the caravan no longer stands, neighbours are now complaining that debris from its demolition is spilling on to a public path.
One local said: ‘What an absolute mess. Yes, she’s taken the caravan down like she was told, but what about the remnants of it?
‘Technically it’s still there. All the interior walls and windows are strewn across the grass – that’s where people like to walk their dogs.
‘You can clearly see the roof is still there, it’s a massive safety hazard now.’
Goddard’s husband Mark claims he has been building a trailer to help him transport all the caravan pieces.
He said: ‘I’ve got to work [my dayjob] as well. I’m building the trailer so it can be transported in one lump. The problem I’ve got is the welder overheats every five minutes.
‘We’ve been doing this for over a week – we’ve taken loads of stuff down the tip. I’ve done four tip trips, that’s quite a lot.’
He said his wife did not know about the overflowing materials, but promised he would ‘speak to her about it in a minute’.
Goddard has previously claimed she was the victim of racial discrimination, bullying and abuse from her neighbours.
She also argued her elderly mum should not be forced to move into a house ‘where climbing stairs could be life-threateningly dangerous for her’.
